Innovative Techniques Used in Trenchless Sewer Repairs

websitebuilder • March 22, 2022

A sewer line is an essential part of your home's drainage system, but unlike other drain lines in your home, this section is out of sight because it is underground. Most homeowners forget about this essential drainage component until sewage backflow problems emerge. A failed sewage drainage system also causes a stench in your home, increases the risk of disease, and can cause extensive property damage. One way to resolve the problem is through trenchless sewer repair. The innovative plumbing technology requires little surface excavation for your sewer system repairs.

This less invasive plumbing technology can save you money and time if you find yourself in need of an overhaul of your sewer line. There are a few different methods used in trenchless plumbing repair. Each method has its pros and cons. At Aurora Plumbing, we have tried most every method. Here are the most common:

1. Slip Liner Installation

Slip liner installation is a trenchless plumbing repair technique in which your plumber pulls a smaller but durable polyethylene carrier pipe into the larger damaged host pipe. The technique replaces the damaged section of the older pipe. Once in place, the contractor seals the space between the two pipes with grout.

2. Pipe Bursting Repair

Pipe bursting can be a cheaper alternative to traditional trench excavation for repairs. This repair technology involves the use of a replacement pipe that's pulled through the old damaged line through a winch. A "bursting head" is used to guide the replacement pipe made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) through the older pipe.

3. Cured-in-Place-Pipe

Cracks and worn-away sections of sewer pipe are one of the most common forms of damage in drainage pipes. The pressure of drain water, chemicals, and other environmental factors increases the risk of cracks and worn sections in the sewer line. Traditionally, dealing with plumbing cracks involved extensive excavation around the site of the leak. Today, Aurora Plumbing's innovative and less-expensive CIPP technology offers a more efficient solution to the problem through internal pipe repair.

In this advanced form of plumbing repair, our plumber creates a new pipe inside the old one. The structural repair procedure involves a fiberglass absorbent tube driven into the older pipe and attached with a two-part epoxy resin.

The liner cures in-place to solve any leak problems in the sewage drainage system plumbing. Plumbers speed up the process with UV light or steam to create a permanent liner on the damaged pipe. This process is a minimally invasive plumbing repair method, which lowers the time and cost of sewer repair. The rehabilitated pipe also lasts a long time.

The CIPP method is the preferred method at Aurora Plumbing due to it being relatively inexpensive and most importantly, less down-time meaning your family may not have to relocate during the process.

A damaged sewer line poses a great risk to your family and your house. The sewage backflow caused by drainage problems causes property damage and exposes the family to disease.
